Police officials of the Delta State Police Command have arrested some suspects in connection with robbery, rape and cultism in the State.
This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, DSP Edafe Bright. It was made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA).
The statement said “Some of the arrest and recoveries made recently are as follows; 1. Arrest of a notorious armed robber/recovery of seven (7) live cartridges: On the 10/11/2021 at about 0445hrs, acting on a tip off, that one Morrison Godwin ‘m’ age 38yrs who has been terrorizing Sapele and its environs and is also on security watch list in the State but residing at Ojolu area was sighted around Sapele.
“The DPO Sapele division detailed surveillance patrol team who swung into action, stormed his house at Ojolu area and arrested the suspect. Upon searching his house, one locally made pistol and seven live cartridges were recovered,” it added.
It said investigation is ongoing concerning the arrest.
On the second case, the statement said “Arrest of suspect who raped/defiled two sisters. The Command Eagle-net Special Squad on 10/11/2021 at about 1000hrs received a complaint from one woman (name withheld) of Okpanam Road, Asaba against one Jude Nduka ‘m’ age 35years of No. 10 Obi Onuwe Street, behind Kowen Plaza, Asaba.
“The complainant alleged that the suspect raped and impregnated her daughter (name withheld) age 16years old and also raped and defiled her teenage daughter name (withheld) who is age ‘13years’
“The Commander, Eagle-net detailed detectives to investigate. The detective swung into action and the suspect was arrested. Upon interrogation the suspect confessed to have committed the crimes.
“Medical examination on the said victims have been carried out. Suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court on completion of investigation,” it said.
For the third case, it said “Arrest of suspected cultist and recovery of one locally made single barrel pistol and one live cartridge: On the 9/11/2021 at about 1230hrs, Operatives attached to Agbarho Police Station in a combined effort with Agbarho vigilante task Force arrested one Solomon Adama ‘m’ 25years old of Maternity Road, Agbarho at Oguname Street, Agbarho.
“When search was conducted on him, one locally made pistol and one live cartridge were recovered. The suspect also confessed being a member of Eiye confraternity.
“On further interrogation, the suspect further stated that the gun was given to him by one Gregory Orhokpocha ‘m’ 37years of Oguname Street, Agbarho, the leader of Eiye confraternity in Agbarho, the suspect Gregory was swiftly arrested. Suspects have been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation,” the statement stated.
It also disclosed that car snatcher was arrested and the stolen car recovered.
“Arrest of car snatcher and recovery of suspected stolen car: On the 8/11/2021 at about 0700hrs, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Oghara Division acting on a tip off detailed a combined team of Police/Vigilante to Otefe Road at Ijomi community where they intercepted a Toyota Corolla car with Reg. No. BEN 741 NK suspected to be snatched with the two male and one female occupants.
“One of the male suspects escaped while the patrol team arrested the other suspect and recovered the car. The suspect gave his name as Lucky Enakpowo ‘m’ of Ofuoma Ughelli, he confessed that him and one Elvis Emmanuel ‘m’ snatched the car from a driver at Uselu in Benin City.
“The female occupant name (withheld) who hails from Plateau State a passenger in the car said she was assaulted, injured by the suspects and that they also attempted to rape her.”
The statement said investigation is ongoing on the case.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, psc(+), the statement said, has assured resident of the State that the Command under his watch remains “committed to the protection of lives and properties in the state especially during this ember months.”
He has sent a strong message to Area Commanders, DPOS and Tactical Commanders on the need to “sustain the temple in the fight against crimes and criminality. He urged them to intensify stop and search and for them to reactivate pin down points.
“He said security architecture should be well emplaced in their area of responsibilities,” it added.
The Command, the statement said, is not relenting in the fight against crimes and criminality.
“The CP has reiterated that Officers and men of the Command should ensure that the state remain hot for criminal minded elements by taking the battle to their door steps”, it stated
