Found with firearm and ammunition, some members of SAPS Bekkersdal have arrested a 25-year-old female suspect.
She was caught in the process of selling the live ammunition in the Mandela section of Parktown, Johannesburg.
A statement by Sergeant Linkie Lefakane of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Office of the Provincial Commissioner Gauteng, and made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA), said “On Friday, 22 July, 2022, members of SAPS Bekkersdal arrested a 25-year-old female suspect in Mandela section for unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.
“Community members of Mandela section in Bekkersdal reportedly caught the woman in the act of selling live ammunition and alerted the Police.
“Members of Bekkersdal Police Station swiftly responded and recovered an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and hand cuffs.”
The statement said that further investigation will confirm the suspect’s residency status in the country.
The suspect, it said, is expected to appear before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.
The statement also urged community members to continue to work with the Police in the fight against crime by reporting any criminal activities on the Crime Stop Hotline at 08600 10111 or anonymously via MySAPSApp.
