To intensify onslaught against crimes, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has given out a total of 188 vehicles, including mobile Community Service Centres (CSC), tow trucks and motorbikes to Stations and Units in the KwaZulu-Natal Province.
It was done during a parade at the Truro Hall Sports Ground in Northdale, Pietermaritzburg on Monday.
This was revealed in a statement issued by Colonel Robert Netshiunda of the South African Police Service, Office of the Provincial Commissioner KwaZulu-Natal. It was made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA).
It said “The Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has handed a total of 188 vehicles, including Mobile Community Service Centres (CSC), tow trucks and motorbikes to Stations and Units during a parade which was held at the Truro Hall Sports Ground in Northdale, Pietermaritzburg on Monday, 15 May 2023.
“The allocation of resources coincides with the provincial management’s strategy to intensify operations throughout the Province as well as crime intelligence-led targeted operations at identified hotspots areas.
“Mobile Community Service Centres will come as a relief to communities at rural stations which are responsible for a vast area where residents travel long distances to access Police services.”
Handing over vehicle keys to District Commanders on parade, the statement said, Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi reminded drivers to take care of the new resources and that Police vehicles must never be used for private purposes.
He also reiterated the fact that sector policing vehicles must never leave their area of operation so that communities have vehicles available whenever they are in need of Police services.
“These are not your vehicles, they belong to the communities because they are meant to serve them. They are there to help you render quality, swift and reliable services to the people of this Province and any misuse of these resources will be met with the strict application of consequence management measures”, warned Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi.
