To contribute to the success of the Nigerian Army, the Rivers State Government has pledged continuous support to the Army.
The Government made the pledge when the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division of Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force (South South) Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), Major General Jamal Abdussalam led some Commanders on a courtesy visit to His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Executive Governor of Rivers State.
This was contained in a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel, Iweha Ikedichi. It was made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA).
It said “The Governor complimented the Army for their role in the security architecture of the State hinted at an expansion geared towards covering the nooks and crannies of the entire State.
“He charged the Army to remain professional and apolitical, noting that peace and tranquility are the basis for development.”
Governor Siminalayi Fubara, according to the statement, called on the Army to step up operations as the government was eager to equally deliver on it’s mandate to the people.
Speaking earlier, the GOC stated that he was at the Government House to pay courtsey visit to the Governor having assumed command of the Division.
He thanked the Government of Rivers State for their support in operations and solicited for even greater cooperation going forward.
The GOC pledged the professionalism of the Army and improved support in the area of security while calling for the cooperation of the good people of Rivers State.
