Pushing for excellence, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has declared that promotion to the rank of Master Warrant Officers (MWO) is to be based on merit.
He made the remark while addressing candidates of the Master Warrant Officers Promotion Board, currently ongoing at the 3 Division Small Arms Range, Miango, Jebu Bassa, Plateau State.
In a statement by the Ag Deputy Director Public Relations, 3 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel, Istifanus Gaji Takwa, and made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA), he said that “only those physically fit and ready to discharge the responsibilities associated with the enviable rank will be considered for promotion.”
The GOC while addressing the over one thousand, five hundred Warrant Officers assembled for the promotion board exercise informed them that efforts have not been spared for their comfort and safe conduct of the exercise.
This, he said, is in line with the high premium the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja placed on administration, as a cardinal pillar of his Command Philosophy.
He urged participants to remain disciplined, exhibit high standard of professionalism and be resilient to succeed at the promotion board.
Major General Abdussalam Abubakar thanked the COAS for the release of adequate resources to cater for the promotion board.
He commended members of the promotion board for the safe conduct of the exercise thus far.
He subsequently charged them to be fair to all, firm and work assiduously to deliver on their mandate.
He assured that efforts will continue to be improved upon with close monitoring with the aim of attaining a zero casualty promotion board exercise 2023.
Highlight of the event was a tour round the camp to assess facilities.
