Gladdened by the promising developments in the Lake Chad area, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has promised to continue supporting the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) body towards stabilizing the region.
The Chief of Defence Staff, made the promise when the Force Commander (FC), MNJTF, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, paid him a courtesy visit.
He expressed appreciation for the MNJTF’s dedication to stabilizing the Lake Chad area, highlighting its crucial economic importance to the neighboring countries.
General Musa emphasized the need to “continue supporting the MNJTF in achieving its mandate and pledged further assistance to ensure the Force’s continued success in the fight against terrorism.”
Giving account of the latest development, the FC of the MNJTF said a series of successes is being recorded in the fight against terrorism as Operation Nashrul Salam triggered more surrenders.
According to him, an increasing number of terrorists have recently laid down their arms in the Republic of Chad, Cameroon, and Nigeria, demonstrating “a significant shift in the ongoing operations against insurgency in the region.”
He also commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their unwavering support to the MNJTF in its efforts to combat terrorism.
The Force Commander said that the MNJTF also intensified intervention in providing support to the communities to facilitate their recoveries through Quick Impact Projects.
He stated that recently in Sector 3 Monguno-Nigeria, over eight communities benefited from thirty five projects in water, education and health sectors.
Operation Nashrul Salam, a non-kinetic operation of the MNJTF, has been instrumental in persuading terrorists to embrace peace and renounce violence in the Lake Chad area.
This approach reflects a strategic shift towards addressing the root causes of conflict and promoting sustainable peace in the region.
The operation’s success in encouraging surrenders from insurgents in multiple countries is a testament to the effectiveness of this non-violent approach in countering terrorism and fostering stability.
