The President of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), Ambassador Emmanuel Obi Okafor, has led a delegation of the association’s National Executive Committee and other distinguished members to the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Abuja on condolence visit.
The visit was to commiserate with officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army over the recent passing of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
A statement by Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman (rtd), AANI National Publicity Secretary, and made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA) said the team was warmly received by the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede.
During the visit, Ambassador Okafor expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, noting his remarkable service to the nation, and the Nigerian Army.
He offered heartfelt prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul and signed the condolence register in honour of the late General’s legacy.
The AANI President also conveyed the association’s deepest condolences to the Commander-in-Chief, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chief of Army Staff and the bereaved family of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja.
He further highlighted the late General’s professionalism, dedication, and the exceptional leadership he provided to the Nigerian Army.
Ambassador Okafor also commended President Tinubu on the appointment of the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Oluyede, an AANI member and a seasoned senior Army officer and leader widely known for his courage, humility, professionalism, and exemplary leadership skills.
The delegation also pledged AANI’s continued support to the Nigerian Army and the country’s security forces in their efforts to maintain peace, and stability and ensure the safety of the nation.
He assured the Acting Chief of Army Staff of the association’s readiness to assist in any way possible as the Nigerian Army continues its important work in securing the country.
In his response, the Acting Chief of Army Staff appreciated AANI for coming to commiserate with the Nigerian Army on the painful passing of Lieutenant General TA Lagbaja.
He further eulogised the professionalism, exemplary leadership and commitment of the deceased Chief of Army Staff and promised the delegation that he would continue in his legacies.
He further promised that the Nigerian Army under his leadership would continue to live up to its constitutional responsibilities.
