The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Uche Okafor, has as part of effort to equip the Police to fight crime, donated two Sienna buses to the state police command.
Handing over the buses to the Command on Wednesday, Okafor said the gesture was part of of his social responsibility to support the Police.
Security Watch Africa reports that the Speaker was accompanied by three traditional rulers, HRM Igwe Dr. Benjamin Okeji of Omasi; HRH.Igwe Barr. Simeon I. Chidubem of Umumbo and HRH Igwe Dr. Chris Chidume Oranu of Omor, all from Ayamelum LGA of Anambra State.
Receiving the buses, the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Kuryas, thanked the Honourable Speaker for donating the buses to the Command and also extended the appreciation of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.
The CP further assured the donor that the vehicles would be judiciously utilised for the purpose they were meant for and urged other well meaning individuals to emulate the gesture in order to enhance safety and security in the state.
In another development, CP Kuryas also received in audience, the Chairman Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), CP Ikechukwu Aduba (rtd.)
The AVG boss, who was accompanied by Chief Ogilisi Igbo and other top officials of the group, said the purpose of the visit was for familiarization and to enhance existing synergy between the two agencies in order to promote safety and security in the state.
