The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects for the alleged brutal rape of a 16-year-old girl (name withheld).
The suspects, Chidiebere Uzoma, 45, and Uchenna Nwegbu, 23, perpetrated the cruel act at Osumowo Street, Awada in Idemili North Local Government Area.
Confirming the arrest of the suspects, the Anmnra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Mohammed, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), said: “ It will be recalled that on February 19, a 16 years old girl was brutally gang raped by two men, leaving her unconscious due to excessive loss of blood.
“ Following the report, Police detectives trailed and arrested the suspects. Meanwhile, the victim was taken to the hospital for medical examination where penetration and multiple lacerations of her hymen was confirmed.
“ She is presently receiving treatment. Upon interrogation, the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime.”
Mohammed further confirmed that the suspects had been arraigned before the magistrate court in Idemili on March 11, after investigation was concluded.
