A total of 26 livestock have been recovered at Ethwa and Mpehle localities in a joint intelligence driven operation supported by members of Maluti, Mbizana, Qumbu Stock theft units, Maluti Mounted Unit and POPS of Aliwal North in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.
The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga, who spoke on the recovery said positive information was followed up during the operation and four cattle, nine goats and five sheep were recovered at Ethwa locality.
“ Among the recovered livestock, three cattle have already been positively identified as stolen from Mount Frere. The members then proceeded to Mpehle locality where eight cattle were recovered and positively identified by their lawful owner of Qothira locality at Qumbu.
“ No arrests have been made at this stage but all possible leads are being followed up as the investigation continues, ” he said.
The Police boss has appealed to livestock owners who have missing stock to contact Captain Mochoao attached to Maluti Stock Theft Unit on 072 580 2496 to assist in identifying the livestock.
He also commended members for the recovery of the suspected stolen stock. “ Stock theft remains a priority crime in our District and the sooner the stock is recovered the crime of stealing and selling the sheep is prevented, ” he added.
