Four suspects have been arrested by the Parkroad Tactical Response Team of the South Africa Police Service (SAPS), for being in possession of unlicensed firearms.
According to the Office of the Provincial Commissioner of Free State, the suspects were arrested while coming from Gauteng to Welkom on Sunday.
Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, who spoke for the Police said the suspects will appear at Welkom Magistrate’s Court soon..
Makhele said the team followed up on intelligence which led operatives to the suspects driving a white Hyundai Matrix with GP registration.
“ The suspects were traced and intercepted at Chopin Street, in Reebeckstad, Welkom. The vehicle as well as four occupants in the vehicle were searched and two unlicensed firearms, a 38 special revolver and a 9mm pistol with serial numbers filed off, were found and confiscated.
“ All suspects aged between 30 and 42 from various areas in Gauteng were arrested and will appear at Welkom Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunitions, ” he stated.
