The Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga, has expressed her shock and contempt at the callous and cold blooded murder of four persons outside a tavern in Kwazakele, Eastern Cape Province on April 3.
Security Watch Africa reports that operatives are on the hunt for two suspects allegedly involved in shooting the deceased persons.
According to Ntshinga, two male suspects arrived at the tavern in Mjamba Street in a grey Volkswagen Polo (hatchback) and started shooting randomly at the people outside.
“ Three persons, two males and a female were fatally injured while the fourth victim was gunned down while walking home from the tavern and was shot not far in another street, allegedly by the same suspects. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
” The motive for the shooting and the suspects are unknown at this stage. The deceased persons were identified as Lusanda Matebele (age unknown), Luyanda Steven Fumana, 36, Sisanda Cele (age unknown) and Sandile Ngqondo, 35. All the victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds, ” the Police boss said.
He further urged anyone who can assist the Police in the murder investigation, in tracking and tracing the suspects to contact D/Lt Col Willie Mayi at the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation office, on 082 697 5914 or Crime Stop 08600 10111 or their nearest police station.
“ All information is confidential and callers may remain anonymous. I am appealing to the communities to assist the Police in tracing these heartless criminals and not to harbour them. Innocent lives were lost and we cannot condone such lawlessness. This act of criminality we take seriously and it will not be tolerated.
“ Given the seriousness of what has happened, the 72 hour activation plan is implemented and a team of senior seasoned detectives have been assigned to conduct this investigation, trace these suspects and bring them to book, ” added Lt Gen Ntshinga.
