A joint operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo Province and the Tactical Intelligence Team has led to the arrest of 1,203 suspects for different criminal offences.
The operation code named “Vhuthu Hawe” also led to the recovery of arms and other exhibits.
According to the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, the suspects aged between 20 and 57 were apprehended for offences such as murder, attempted murder, robberies, assault, common robbery, armed robbery and sexual offences including rapes.
Ledwaba said some of the suspects were also arrested for burglary businesses, burglary residential, stock theft, theft of motor vehicle, drug related crimes, driving under the influence of liquor, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, Immigration Act, public drinking, Contravention of the Road Traffic Act and illegal dealing in liquor.
“ These operations comprised of various Police units from all levels of Command in the Province, and was conducted through roadblocks, tracing of wanted suspects, intensive patrols and stop and searches.
“ The arrested suspects during these operations are expected to appear before the local magistrate’s courts across the province, ” he said.
Ledwaba also applauded the outstanding work that was performed by the men and women in blue in ensuring that the citizens of the province are safely protected from the evil acts of criminals.
