The South Africa (SA) Army Artillery Formation held a Capability Demonstration of Artillery guns to Chief of the SA Army and members of the Extended Army Command Cadre in Potchefstroom, North West Province on April 19.
The Officer Commanding of 4 Artillery Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel M.J. Tshabalala, explained that as much as the Capability Demonstration was to Chief of Army and the Extended Army Command Council, the significance of the demo was a commemoration to the fallen Number One Gunner and General Officer Commanding of Artillery Formation, Brigadier General K. Makina who passed on recently.
Security Watch Africa reports that to honour the fallen hero, during Fire Plan Joe Makina, Artillery gunners shot the GV5 155 MM howitzer, M5 120 MM Mortar, as well as the Bateleur (127 MM Self-propelled multiple rocket launcher) during the live firing exercise.
Chief Director Chief Army Corporate Services, Major General T. Xundu, Chief Director Force Structure, Major General S.G. Hlongwa and Chief Director Defence Reserves, Major General R. Anderson fired the guns during Fire Plan Joe Makina in honour and memory of their fallen colleague.
