Caught in the act of robbery, the Police in Ghana has shot dead two armed robbery suspects.
It also arrested suspected arms supplier, while pistols and two motorbikes were recovered.
A statement by the Ag. Director-General, Ghana Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kwesi Ofori, made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA) on Wednesday, said “The Police on Saturday, September 25, 2021, were forced to shoot two suspected armed robbers who later died on admission at the hospital. They are Joseph Dagodzo and Mujahid Abubakar, alias Sule.
“A 65-year-old suspected illegal arms dealer, Bukari Salifu, was also arrested at Zenu near Ashaiman. The deceased suspects were arrested when they attempted to rob motorists along the Koluedor – Sege – Accra main road.
“During interrogation, they mentioned Bukari Salifu as the one who provides them with weapons for their robbery expeditions,” it said.
The statement added “Under the pretext of aiding the Police to retrieve some weapons and assist in arresting their other accomplices, who had escaped from the scene, the two deceased suspects led the crime-combat Police team to the purported hideout of their accomplices in a bush near Zenu.
“There, the Police came under fire as the suspects attempted to escape. This was as the highly trained crime-combat team and the officers returned fire. The suspected armed robbers were shot in the process and were rushed to the Police Hospital where they died. Their bodies have been deposited at the Police Morgue.”
Police Intelligence, according to the statement, led to the arrest of Bukari Salifu, their alleged financier and supplier of weapons.
“A Blow F9-22 Pistol and a locally manufactured pistol and two motorbikes have been retrieved by the Police..
“The Police are pursuing those on the run and wish to serve notice that criminals cannot and will not win in any battle against the Police.
“We wish to reassure the public of our resolve to work day and night to protect lives and property,” he stressed.
