For raping his own biological daughter, a South African court has sentenced a father to ten years imprisonment.
A statement by Brigadier Motantsi Makhele of the South African Police Service, Office of the Provincial Commissioner of Free State, made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA) didn’t disclose the names of the suspect and the victim.
It reads: “A father was slapped with ten years direct imprisonment after being found guilty of raping his own biological daughter.
“On Thursday evening, 27 February 2020 while the 18-year-old victim was asleep at her home in Grassland, Bloemfontein her father allegedly came into her bedroom and forcefully raped her.
“The same night following her ordeal, the victim went to the Police to report the matter. The Police reacted swiftly to the complaint and arrested a 42-year-old male who is a father to the victim.
“The suspect has been in custody ever since his arrest and was sentenced to ten years imprisonment by the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 28 September, 2021,” it stated.
The Free State Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, according to the statement, thanked the Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Joseph Mbobo from Mangaung Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for “ensuring that justice was served, especially to the most vulnerable.”
