With a chanced enquiry by a female participant at the COP26 about the Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem he pinned on his cloth, Buhari seized the opportunity to extol the gallant sacrifices of the Nigerian troops.
The encounter was monitored by Security Watch Africa (SWA) on Monday.
Buhari’s explanation was coming few days after a London-based magazine, The Economist, claimed that the Nigerian military was only mighty on paper.
Buhari proudly explained to his audience that the Emblem on his chest “Is symbol to remember and honour the Armed Forces veterans, especially all those who paid the supreme sacrifice for peace and security in Nigeria.”
He reiterated the resolve to say no to divisions and embrace one another as a united indivisible country
During the formal launch of the Emblem for the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration in Abuja, Buhari had stated “The emblem which I will launch shortly is not only a sign of the sacrifices and blood shed by officers and men of the Armed Forces for peace and security in our country.
“It is also a sign of our resolve to remain united as a Nation and confront any challenges we may face. It is a sign of our resolve to say no to divisions and embrace one another as a united indivisible country. May the labour of our heroes for our fatherland never be in vain,” Buhari stated.
