Taking cognizance of its support, the new Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali has commended the Chadian Armed Forces for its support.
He also appealed for more cooperation that would aid in achieving the mandate of the MNJTF.
The Force Commander made the remark during a maiden visit to the Chadian Chief of General Staff, General Abakar Abdelkarim Daoud, at his office on Wednesday 26 July, 2023.
This was contained in a statement by the Military Public Information Officer – Ndjemena, Lieutenant Colonel, Abubakar Abdullahi. It was made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA).
While acknowledging the Chadian Armed Forces for their role as gracious hosts to the MNJTF Headquarters, Major General Ali acknowledged “General Daoud’s leadership role and consistent support towards the success of the MNJTF.”
The statement added “He emphasized the importance of collaboration and cooperation among the member countries to effectively combat the activities of terrorists and ensure peace and stability in the Lake Chad basin region.
“The Force Commander highlighted the need for increased support from all member countries, including Chad, in terms of intelligence sharing, manpower, and resources to effectively combat the common enemy.”
In response, General Daoud assured the Force Commander and the MNJTF of Chad Armed Forces readiness to provide continuous support and assistance towards achieving the mission’s goals.
He expressed the Chadian armed forces’ commitment to the success of the MNJTF, emphasizing that Chad, as the host country’s Chief of Defence Staff, holds a special responsibility towards ensuring the mission’s success.
The visit concluded with both officers expressing optimism about the progress and future successes of the MNJTF.
They reiterated their commitment to collaborative efforts and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation among member countries to achieve lasting peace and security in the region.
“The visit served as a reaffirmation of the strong cooperation between the MNJTF and Chad, and highlighted the determination of both parties to work together to eradicate terrorism and extremism,” the statement said.
