A former bandits leader in Zamfara State, Auwalu Daudawa, has surrendered arms and ammunition to the state police command.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Abutu Yaro, during a chat with newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, said that Daudawa, a repentant bandit at Dumburum Forest in Zurmi Locaol Government Area of the state, surrendered 22 sophisticated weapons with the acceptance of the Zamfra State Peace Accord as part of efforts by the state government to mop up arms in private hands.
In a statement issued, Mr. Abutu Yaro was quoted as saying, “In furtherance to the acceptance of Zamfara State Peace Accord initiated by His Excellency the Executive Governor of Zamfara State Dr. Muhammad Bello Matawalle MON, on Monday, 8th February, 2021, a former bandits leader from one of the largest and most notorious bandits camp at Dumburum Forest in Zurmi council of Zamfara State, by name AUWALU DAUDAWA voluntarily submitted 22 Arms and Ammunition of different calibre to the State Government Disarmament Committee.”
The recovered arms included 1Rocket Propel Grenade, 1 Anti-Air Craft rifle, 1 AK 49 and 19 AK 47 rifles with 72 rounds of chain live Ammunition of Anti Air Craft.
Mr. Abutu congratulated the bandits “for honoring this clarion call.
“The Submission of these sophisticated rifles is a further demonstration that the peace initiative of the state government is yielding tremendous result.
“We salute the state governor for this. Let me enjoin other bandits from different locations of the state to also embrace the Peace Accord and surrender their weapons so that Peace and Security of the State can be improved and sustained for economic, social and political development.
