A multi-agency team of Police officers have confiscated two AK 47 riffles and one G3 riffle from a motorcycle rider and his passenger in Lokore area, in Turkana County of Kenya.
The operatives comprising of KPS, APS and DCI officers intercepted the suspects, aged 21 and 37 at the Lokore roadblock riding from Kakuma towards Lodwar conveying the illegal firearms that had been stripped and packaged in a 50kg sack.
According to a Police source, the operatives acted on a tip off on the smuggling of illegal firearms.
“ After intense interrogation, the suspects were not able to provide officers with a satisfactory account on the fact of being in possession of the above stated weapons therefore leading to their arrest and placement in Police custody. Detectives from DCI Turkana West have since taken over investigations into the matter to establish the motive of the suspects.
“ We express our gratitude to the members of the public living within the area for providing the law enforcement agencies with crucial intelligence that led to the successful arrest of the suspects.
“ Meanwhile, the firearms have been collected by our Ballistics experts for further analysis and the motorcycle impounded,” the source said.
