A man, identified as Tunji Adekitan, was arrested by the Gender unit Area ‘D’ Mushin, Lagos State, for allegedly defiling his two step daughters aged 10 and 14.
According to investigation, the incident happened in the Ilesamaja area of the state.
One of the girls’ statement to the police described how Mr. Adekitan defiled her.
Sources said the girls had been placed in a government approved shelter by a social worker by name Adenine Odede from Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development (MYSD), Alausa, Ikeja.
Police sources added that the suspect blamed the devil for the crime.
While efforts are on by child rights advocates to get justice for the girls, they, however, expressed concern that the statement of the second girl has not been taken by the police, saying it could jeopardise the case.
“Efforts to reach Mrs. Odede proved abortive as the case is about to be transferred to Gender Unit PANTI for further investigation and prosecution, but the case can’t be transferred without the complete statement from both Survivors,” the source added.
Following the complaint, the Advocate for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network called on the Director School Social Work Lagos State, the Head Child Protection Unit Alausa and Director Child to reach out to Mrs. Odede to do the needful.
