Detectives at the Sango-Ota Police Area Command, Ogun State, have arrested a 43-year-old housewife, Bisola Awodele, for killing her newborn, and scalding her husband, Peter Philips with hot water.
It was gathered that Awodele, a mother of five said her inability to meet the financial obligation required to raise the child forced her into killing and burying the child eight months ago.
Although, the act remained a family secret, it however became public knowledge after Awodele scalded her husband with hot water on March 8, after complaining about his habit of getting drunk and not contributing in meeting the family needs.
According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect was arrested following a report by her husband.
“ Upon the report, the Area Commander, Muhideen Obe, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), quickly directed for the arrest of the murderous woman. The team swiftly moved to the scene where the suspect was promptly apprehended.
“ On interrogation, the suspect explained to the Police how her husband is fond of coming home drunk without contributing anything to the welfare of her and the children. She stated further that on the day of the incident, the husband came home drunk as usual.
“ She said while she was complaining about the husband’s act of drunkenness, he started insulting her and her parents which infuriated her, and out of anger she picked a pot of hot water and poured the hot water on his body.
“ Preliminary investigation also revealed that the suspect gave birth to a baby about eight months ago, but she killed and secretly buried the baby out of frustration. The investigating team have since followed her to the secret grave where the carcass was exhumed. ”
Oyeyemi further revealed that the husband has been taken to Ota General Hospital, where he is presently recuperating.
He also stated that the Commissioner of Police (CP), Edward Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), for further investigation and prosecution.
