Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command, have bursted an armed robbery syndicate, and arrested two suspects.
Security Watch Africa reports that the suspects had on Saturday, at about 5:30p.m., taken over the Nkpor/Obosi road axis, unleashing mayhem on residents and road users.
According to the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Mohammed, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), the suspects names are Chiboy Ezike, 25, and Chiemere Ajuluchukwu, 23.
Mohammed said the suspects confessed to be members of Supreme Vikings Confraternity as two locally made pistols and 10 live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
The PPRO said : “ On February 27, following a distress call that armed robbers were operating along Nkpor/Obosi axis, Police operatives attached to the Command Special Anti-cult unit in conjunction with Scorpion vigilante group, Obosi quickly responded and moved to the scene.
” On sighting the police, the hoodlums engaged them into a fierce gun battle, as a result, the two suspects sustained gunshot injuries on their hand and leg leading to their arrest.
“ The suspects were taken to the hospital for treatment after which they will be charged to court for prosecution.”
He added that the State Commissioner of Police (CP), Monday Bala Kuryas, has thanked “Ndi Anambra” for their cooperation and urged them to sustain the tempo by assisting the Command with actionable intelligence in order to discover authors of crime in the State.
“ The CP further reassured the public that the command under his watch will continue to protect lives and properties of all the citizens in accordance with internationally acceptable best practises, ” Mohammed stated.
