Some officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army on Tuesday switched to celebration mood as a highly respected retired military officer and a former Director Army Public Relations and pioneer Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Fredrick Bini Chijuka (retired) visited the Army Headquarters, Abuja.
The octogenarian Chijuka was one of the trailblazers in public relations practice in the military.
He was also the first to attain the rank of a Brigadier in the public relations directorate.
Officers, soldiers and civilian staff of the Directorate of Army Public Relations especially went agog on Tuesday when he came calling.
Security Watch Africa (SWA) gathered that Tuesday 9th August, 2022, was a great and historic day at the Headquarters that staff will not forget in a hurry.
While at the Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Chijuka paid an office call on the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya.
He thereafter visited the Directorate of Army Public Relations at the Headquarters.
The octogenarian is someone many rising officers now looked up to as he practiced public relations at the most trying times of military regimes in the 1980s and 1990s before he voluntarily retired from the Army in 1996.
While in office, many veteran public relations practitioners and journalists have attested to his professionalism, skills and determination.
