The Borno State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Ibrahim, has assured farmers, herders and investors in the agricultural sector of absolute security as the planting season draws close.
Ibrahim who also went round Agro-Rangers base (a special force created to protect farmers while at their farmlands), expressed satisfaction with their performance.
The NSCDC boss noted that the Agro-Rangers was created in a bid to fulfill the Federal Government avowed food security plan in Nigeria and Borno State in particular through provision of physical security to farmers on their farmlands and protection of Agro-Allied investments.
“ We interacted with farmers and Herdsmen at Pariya and Gongolon Irrigation Farms under Jere Local Government Area (LGA) outskirt of Maiduguri, ahead of the forthcoming farming season in order to boost their confidence in Agro-Rangers and to reassure them of NSCDC’s readiness in protection of farmers, farmlands and Herders in Borno State.
“ Our ultimate priority is in Agro-Rangers and protection of Critical National Assets ”, he said.
The Commandant applauded the resilience and large turnout of farmers as well as the bumper harvest this dry season which he said has debunked the rumours making the round on social media that farmers have deserted their farms and hunger has taken over the city of Maiduguri and Jere.
On their part, farmers expressed satisfaction to the Security Commandant and NSCDC Borno State Command Agro-Rangers, and pledged support to the Corps in sharing credible intelligence.
