The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has commended the Nigerian Army Signals Corps’ pivotal role in the ongoing Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency Operations (CTCOIN) in the North East, North West, and other operational engagements in different parts of the country.
He gave the commendation, on Wednesday, 22 May, 2024 during the unveiling ceremony of the remodeled and expanded Headquarters Nigerian Army Signals Corps Complex, popularly known as Murtala Mohammed House.
Acknowledging Nigerian Army Signals’ fast-paced development and transformation being witnessed globally in the ICT sector, the Army Chief noted that the Corps has excelled at harnessing new technologies to develop state of the art networks that impact mission success by facilitating command and control in the Nigerian Army (NA).
General Lagbaja, in a statement by the Director Army Public Relations, Major General, Onyema Nwachukwu, and made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA), said that the NA Signals has gone further to extend its services to other government agencies and the private sector, thereby projecting the image of the NA in the ICT world.
The remodeled Signals’ Headquarters and the 60-room Student Officers’ hostel commissioned later at the School of Signals, he said, are part of the “ongoing Army Headquarters infrastructural development efforts to provide the needed conducive working and living environment for NA personnel, to enhance productivity and well-being.”
The Army Chief said that in 11 months short of a week, since assumption as COAS, the Army Headquarters has:”executed several life-changing projects, including the construction and renovation of living quarters for officers and soldiers, the provision of portable water, improved medical facilities for barracks communities, as well, as the renovation, remodeling, and outright reconstruction of office facilities.”
The COAS also pointed out, that the remodelled Murtala Mohammed House is a springboard to further enhance the Nigerian Army Signals’ capacity to compete favourably with its peers globally, as well as serve as a proud landmark and a symbol of a renewed efficiency renaissance for the Nigerian Army Signals.
He commended the Commander Corps of Signals, Major General Gbemiga Adesina for his initiative in plugging into his Command Philosophy
The Army Chief pointed out, that the value added to the NA Signals in the past 11 months has been remarkable.
He equally appreciated the efforts of the Staff Officers and personnel of the Corps towards repositioning the Nigerian Army Signals.
General Lagbaja expressed gratitude to the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for his confidence and unwavering support of the NA and its leadership.
In his welcome remarks during the occasion, the Corps Commander, Signal, Major General Gbemiga Adesina said that the Corps, since its inception, has remained resolute in delivering its mandate of providing efficient, reliable and secure communications support to the NA and has continued to evolve progressively, as an embodiment of commitment and competence.
The Corps Commander said that the commissioning of the Headquarters signals will go a long way in ameliorating the dearth of offices for personnel posted to the Headquarters and consequently impact on the troops’ morale in furtherance of the COAS Command Philosophy.
The remodelled headquarters complex provides 68 modern offices, a library, a museum, 2 conference rooms, a kitchen, dinning area and storage space.
