The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, on Thursday 25 April, 2024, lauded the innovative acumen of the Commander Corps of Engineers, Major General Philip Eromosele and officers and soldiers of the Corps for their ingenuity.
According to him, they have keyed effectively into his transformation agenda to revolutionize Nigerian Army personnel welfare through provision of comfortable accommodation and befitting living and working environment.
He also commissioned the newly constructed Nigerian Army (NA) Shopping Complex at Bonny Military Cantonment, Lagos.
In his address at the commissioning ceremony, the COAS, who was also the Special Guest of Honor, commended the Engineers for their exceptional skills and effectiveness in executing myriads of diverse projects for the Nigerian Army and the nation at large.
In a statement by the Director Army Public Relations, Major General, Onyema Nwachukwu, and made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA), the COAS described their efforts as “noteworthy contributions to national development”.
Gen Lagbaja pointed out, that the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers have so far, amongst several other successful projects constructed over 40 roads and recovered over 58 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) in the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai theatre as well as the safe clearance of the 2002 Bomb explosion scene in Ikeja Cantonment, Lagos.
Speaking further, the COAS stated that “today’s commissioning of this Shopping Mall represents a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to enhance the welfare and well-being of our personnel and their families”.
The Army Chief expressed his appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his tireless support and continuous guidance.
He said, that the leadership of the NA shall continue to focus its energy at ensuring that the NA actualizes Mr President’s commitment to secure the lives and property of Nigerians.
In his welcome address, the Commander Corps of Engineers, Major General Philip Eromosele expressed appreciation to the COAS for providing a professional atmosphere that promotes competence and innovation, as well as supports the welfare and well-being of personnel.
