Recognizing their importance, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has insisted that the Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) are critical stakeholders in the Nigerian Army.
He made the remark at the Second Regimental Sergeant Majors Convention 2023 held at El’edua Multipurpose Hall, Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to him, the decline in the quality of RSMs became very worrisome at some points.
The COAS, in a statement by the Deputy Director, 2 Division, Army Public Relations,
Lieutenant Colonel, Charles Ekeocha, and made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA), said “that the decline in the quality of Regimental Sergeant Majors that arose at some point in the Nigerian Army and became a source of concern.
“This necessitated ideas such as the RSM’s Convention to be put in place where deliberate lectures such as was heard throughout the period of the Covention were planned.”
Lieutenant General Lagbaja also urged participants to take the lessons, contributions and pertinent ideas raised during the convention to their various formations and units for implementation.
During the course highlight, the Chief of Administration Army, Major General Jimmy Akpor thanked the Chief of Army Staff for the opportunity giving for the Convention.
He stated that the Convention is coming at a right time when it would help equip personnel in good administrative delivery.
At the convention, lectures bordering on Troops Motivation, Mentorship Skills, Emotional Intelligence and Leadership were discussed.
