Adetokumbo Christopher Owolabi, who was recently deployed by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), as the Commissioner of Police (CP), Anambra State has assumed duties.
Owolabi who is the 30th Commiisoner of Police of the State, was born May 29, 1964 in London, United Kingdom; and hails from the renowned Ogiri-Magonogo Community in Kogi State.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ikenga Tochukwu, who confirmed the new CP’s take over of leadership in a statement said: “He attended Ireti Primary School, Ikoyi, Lagos and proceeded to Mount Carmel College, Ilorin for his secondary school education. He obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSC) degree in Political Science from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1985 and masters degree in International Police Science from the University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom in 2004
“He enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of police (ASP)on 15th March, 1988. Sequel to a successful completion of training at the Nigeria Police academy then in Kaduna , he was deployed to Kwara State for a compulsory one year attachment in September, 1989. He served as Staff Officer Junior (SOJ), Staff Officer Senior (SOS) and a detective in the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Kwara and Ondo State Police Commands, respectively between 1990 & 1996.
“He became the pioneer Officer Commanding, No. 35 squadron, Police Mobile Force (PMF) Dutse in 1997 and served as CSP, Federal Operations, Force Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja between 2004 and 2010.”
Stating his other achievements, Tochukwu added: “As an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), he served as the Personal Assistant (PA) to the Chairman, Police Service Commission (2012). Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations Oyo State (2013) and Area Commander, Festac, Lagos State Command (2015). As Deputy Commissioner of Police, he served as the DCP, ZCID Zone 7, Abuja (2016), DCP DFA, Bauchi State Command (2017) and DC DFA, Anambra State Police Command between 2017 and 2020.
“He also served as the Force Communication Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja before his depolyment as the 30th Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command. CP Owolabi is an alumnus of the Chevening Scholarship Program, 2003 and also of the United State sponsored International Visitor Leadership Program 2013.
“He has attended host of professional and staff courses. A few of the course include: Advanced Detective Course in Jos, Squadron Command Course, Gwoza, Disaster Management Course, Jaji, High Level Course, Vicenza Italy, Tactical Leadership and Command Course and Strategic Leadership and Command Course, Jos respectively”
He further stated that the CP had in the course of his service, served in the United Nations and African Union Peacekeeping missions in Rwanda, (1994), Liberia (2004) and Sudan (2006), and is married with children.
