To assist in keeping law and order during the Osun State Gubernatorial election, the Enugu State Police Command on Thursday deployed 400 Police personnel to the State.
The election is slated to hold on Saturday 16th of July, 2022.
Speaking with the Police officials during a parade at the Command in Enugu, the Commissioner of Police of the State, CP Abubakar Lawal Daura, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Operations, DCP Olasoji Akinbayo, warned them to conduct themselves well in the State.
He said “Don’t join anybody to collect egunje. Don’t join election egunje collection. Allegations we got was that Ekiti election was sold. That some people collected N10,000 each.
“We could not prosecute anybody because we didn’t have any evidence. As you go to Osun State, don’t help anybody to carry ballot box.
“You are going there to ensure they maintain distance. Don’t let any party agent come to meet you.
“Don’t go there and be asking party agents ‘What’s your arrangement for us’. Don’t spoil our name,” he warned.
“We are not in competition with anybody. You must maintain your dignity as Police Officers.
“If you want the country to move forward, don’t join anybody to spoil the process,” he stated.
He also reminded the Police personnel that they are not in competition with any security agency. We are to work in synergy with other security agencies to protect law abiding citizens and electoral materials.
Some of the deployed Police men and women who spoke with Security Watch Africa before their departure, promised not to let the Nigeria Police Force down, as they will ensure that they discharge their responsibilities diligently.
