Worried by climate change in parts of the country, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned Nigerians and visitors to the country on the rising temperatures and high humidity levels over the next 3-4 days.
According to the Agency, it may cause thermal discomfort across several regions in Nigeria.
While urging residents to stay alert, it disclosed that the most affected areas included North-Central & Eastern States.
The States are Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Cross River, and FCT.
Other vulnerable regions are Southwest, Coastal areas, Taraba, Adamawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto.
It noted that the potential Health Risks that may occur include Fatigue & Irritability, Reduced focus & motor skills, Lower productivity.
In order to stay safe, the Agency issued the following Tips: “Stay cool: use fans, air conditioning, or shaded spaces.
“Dress light: Wear breathable clothing. Hydrate: Drink plenty of water.
Avoid peak sun hours (12 pm – 3 pm). Use sun protection: Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen.”
It concluded by urging Nigerians to take precautions & spread the word!
