A 35-year-old suspect, Ovie Michael, who leads a gang of robbers cum rapists to attack young girls in Oghara area of Delta State, has been arrested.
Michael, who was arrested by operatives of the Oghara Police Division, was found in possession of nine handsets, nine female handbags, amongst other incriminating items.
According to DSP Edafe Bright, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), series of intelligence gathering by cultivation of informant led to the arrest of the serial rapist who is a motorcycle rider.
“ The suspect specializes in picking young girls at night as passengers, divert them to the bush, rob them of their belongings and thereafter forcefully have unlawful carnal knowledge of them while threatening them with dagger. A combined team comprising of Police and Army personnel swung into action arrested the suspect with nine handsets of different makes including that of his last victim were recovered from him.
” Also an iPhone valued N400,000, nine female hand bags, two pair of eye glasses, five phone chargers, two ATM cards and 13 sim cards were recovered from him. Investigation is ongoing. ”
In another development, a member of a vigilante group, Monday Mila, allegedly kidnapped by suspected herdsmen along his farm at Umutu, has been rescued by the Police.
Bright said members of the group, led by one Kess Opia reported the kidnap to the Police. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Umutu Division, Patience Ugbe, a Chief Superintendent of Police immediately mobilized a combined team of Police, Vigilantes and some youths to the bush in search of the victim.
“ Due to the pressure on them, the suspected kidnappers abandoned the victim and fled. The victim was rescued and reunited with his family. Effort is ongoing to arrest the feeling suspects. ”
The PPRO in a statement chronicling the achievements of the command, also said the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), operatives while on patrol along Hard Rock Hotel, Achala Ibusa recovered a locally made revolver pistol loaded with four 7.62mm live ammunitions and another locally made pistol with five ammunitions.
“ Three suspected young men were sighted, the Police team flagged them, but on sighting the police, they took to their heels and ran into the bush. They were chased but escaped and threw away a small bag in their possession, when searched the firearms were recovered, manhunt for the fleeing suspect is on going.”
Bright added ” RRS operatives while on patrol around Bonsaac area in Asaba sighted two young men in a suspicious manner, they confronted them but took to their heels. They were chased and one Akpotha Ogheneyole Ernest ‘m’ 28yrs of Jahbuze Bonsaac Asaba was arrested. Upon interrogation confessed membership of Buccaneers confraternity cult group, search warrant was executed in his house/premises, buccaneers Regalia with its insignia was recovered. Investigation is ongoing.
” On 21/3/2021 at about 1620hrs, based on the intelligence gathered, and long term monitoring by the men of A division Warri, the DPO A division Warri mobilized a team of Policemen and stormed a black spot within Open Heaven Hotel premises close to the swimming pool Iffiekporo community where one Lucky Afejuku ‘m’ was arrested, forty seven (47) wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp, ten (10) pieces of skunk weeds popularly known as SK in transparent plastic containers and five bottles of codeine syrup of 100 milligrams each was recovered from him. Suspect confessed to the crime for which he was arrested. Investigation is ongoing. “
