To enhance troops’ welfare in the North East (NE) Theatre of Operations, the Theatre Commander, Joint Task force NE Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Waidi Shaibu, on Tuesday 14 May, 2024, commissioned a solar powered borehole at the Nigeria Police Camp, located at 333 Artilary Regiment Barracks Njimtilo, Maiduguri, Borno State.
Speaking during the ceremony, Gen Shaibu, according to a reliable source who spoke with Security Watch Africa (SWA), said, the event underscored one of the cardinal tenets of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja’s administration, which he noted, was the prioritization of the welfare of troops and their families.
He added that the idea behind the project, was to ensure accessible water inNjimtilo Camp for own troops and other sisters agencies, emphasising that it would ease the water needs of soldiers and other security agencies in the environment.
He further said that the construction of the water source, was one of the non-kinetic measures by the Nigerian Army.
Gen Shaibu thanked the COAS for ensuring that the welfare and well-being of troops were given priority.
In his welcome address, the Nigeria Police Coordinator, Brigadier General OO Yakubu, said the occasion marked a significant milestone in the Special Forces Mobile Police Camp, Njimtilo.
He stressed that the construction of the borehole, was borne out of the need to compliment government efforts in resolving water challenges around troops and host communities.
He added that water was a fundamental human need, essential for life and well-being, hence, the need to build the borehole.
The event featured tour of the facility, group photograph and address to MOPOL personnel.
