To prevent rampant jailbreaks reported in parts of the country, the Commissioner of Police (CP) for Zamfara State, Ayuba N. Elkanah, has taken steps to beef up security in the correctional facilities in the State.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday on behalf of Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu and made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA).
It said “In view of the prevailing security challenges and the effort of Zamfara State Police Command to ensure safety and security of all Correctional facilities in Zamfara State. Today being 25th October, 2021 the Commissioner of Police, CP Ayuba N. Elkanah psc+ accompanied by Police Tactical Commanders visited Gusau Central Correctional facility to assess the existing security arrangements with a view to averting any security threats at the Centre.
“The Commissioner of Police while going round the facility assures the Comptroller of Correctional Service that, Police is fully committed to the security and safety of all Correctional Centres in the State. Adding that, his office is always open to approve any security request regarding Correctional facilities”
While responding, the Comptroller of Correctional Service thanked the Commissioner of Police for his proactiveness and enthusiasm to protect correctional facilities against any form of attack by unscrupulous elements.
He assured the CP that, his office will be keeping in touch with the Police Command in a bid to ensure Security of Correctional Centres in the State.
“Similar visit will be relocated to other correctional facilities outside Gusau, the State capital,” the statement said.
