To rescue the 73 students abducted from Government Day Secondary School, Kaya in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Wednesday, the State Police Command has deployed search and rescue teams for their safe recovery.
Confirming that the students were abducted by bandits at 11:22am of Wednesday, the Command said it has beefed up security in the affected communities to forestall reoccurrence.
It also appealed for more support to security agencies in order to effectively perform their roles.
A press statement made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA) signed by SP Mohammed Shehu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) on behalf of Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP Ayuba Elkanah, Gusau, said “The Zamfara State Police Command wishes to confirm the abduction of 73 Students of Government Day Secondary school, Kaya in Maradun LGA.
“The abduction followed the invasion of the school by large number of armed bandits that occurred today at exactly 1122hrs.
“The Command under the leadership of CP Ayuba Elkanah has deployed search and rescue team that was mandated to work in synergy with the military to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students.”
Appealing to the general public especially parents and relatives of the abducted students to exercise patience, the CP urged them to “continue to pray for the success of the ongoing rescue operation.
“Security has also been beefed up at Kaya Village and environ to forestall further attack on the communities”, the statement stated
The Command also promised to make public further development on the matter.
