Operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Borno State Command have arrested a man who specialises in preparing dead chickens and selling same for commercial purposes to unsuspecting members of the public in Borno State.
The suspect, identified as Hassan Mohammed Ebere, 33, lives at Goni Damgari Bayan Quarters, in Maiduguri, the state capital.
He was reportedly arrested by members of the corps at Ngadabul River Bank behind BRTV Complex in the metropolis.
A statement issued by the corps over the matter says, “One Hassan Mohammed Ebere “M” 33 Yrs, Christian by faith of Goni Damgari Bayan Quarters Maiduguri by Personnel of the Corps at Ngadabul River Bank behind BRTV Complex preparing dead Chickens unhealthy for Human Consumption and selling for Commercial Purpose to members of the public.
“Our Investigation revealed that the suspect has been in this act for over five (5) Years in Maiduguri metropolis.
“He admitted Committing the act twice in a week where he processes at an average of 10-15 dead chickens (twice a week)
“His customers are in local beer parlours (joints) in Monday Market. He smokes the chickens and sell at Baga Fish Market disguising as Bush meat.
“Fresh for Suya Joints and local restaurants across the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council.”
It is, however, recommended that since the suspect had admitted committing the act which is capable of causing serious health challenges, spurious damage to human system (Health) and equally against the teaching of both faiths (Religious) in the state, the suspect be prosecuted in a Court of competent Jurisdiction.
