For robbing residents in Harmony area of Nairobi at gun point, Police officers in Kenya have gunned down a suspect in that area.
His two other gang members were said to have escaped the scene with gun shot wounds.
A press statement by the Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA) at the weekend, said the gang first opened fire as they spotted the advancing Police detectives.
The statement said “A criminal who was robbing city residents of their valuables at gun point, was this morning gunned down as two of his accomplices fled the scene with gunshot wounds.
“The suspect who was felled by our agents’ fire could not be immediately identified as he had no identification documents with him.
“In the wee hours today morning, detectives received a distress call through our #FichuakwaDCI hotline, that a marauding gang had staged a robbery in Harmony area, where they were attacking innocent residents with reckless abandon.
“The call was actioned to our Dandora based sleuths who responded on time, just as the thugs were attacking a woman who was headed home,” it said.
The statement added “The cornered thugs whose party had just been ruined, opened fire towards the fast advancing officers as they fled the scene.
“But the officers’ response was fierce and precise, leaving the brave suspect fatally wounded.
“His cowardly accomplices, who will live to tell the story of how their master lost his life after challenging law enforcement agents to a duel, dived into a sewer channel and swum through the sludge towards Njiru. Detectives are hot on their trail.
“Meanwhile, the woman who had been attacked by the thugs was escorted home by the officers. Luckily, she did not suffer any injuries.
“The scene was visited by top DCI & Police Commanders from Buruburu Police division and was processed by crime scene detectives,” the statement concluded.
