Three firearms and ammunition have been recovered by operatives of the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit at a hideout in Weldra Street, Clarke Estate, Elsies River, Western Cape Province.
It was learnt that recovery was part of effort to root out the proliferation of illegal firearms and gangsterism in the Elsies River.
Security Watch Africa gathered that the recovery was made during a search that was conducted at a residence in the early hours of Friday.
A Police source said: “Members attached to Provincial Anti-Gang Unit acted on a tip-off and recovered about firearms hidden at the address. Members went to the house and during the search they recovered firearms hidden on the ground at the back of the yard. Members had to dig a hole in order to get to the firearms. A 28-year-old suspect was arrested.
“Meanwhile members attached to the Nyanga Cluster Reaction Team also recovered three imitation firearms in Bestenbier Road in Elsies River. Members received information about firearms hidden at the premises and during the search recovered the three imitation firearms hidden on the roof of an old Combi. A 28-year-old suspect was also arrested.”
