The South African Police Service in Western Cape Province, have arrested a 42-year-old man from Bellville for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The suspect was reportedly arrested on April 29, on Old Paarl Road, Bellville during at a vehicle checkpoint.
It was gathered that a silver Honda Brio was stopped by operatives and searched, a face cloth at the driver’s side door covering an object was sighted and upon closer inspection it was found to be a pistol containing ten rounds.
“The driver of the vehicle could not produce any form of firearm licence or permit. He was arrested and detained at Bellville SAPS for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The firearm and ammunition were handed in as evidence. The suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court once charged,” a Police source stated.
In another development, members attached to the Provincial Integrated Team have arrested a 42-year-old man for the illegal possession of firearms and drugs.
It was learnt that operatives were on patrols in Leiden, Delft on Wednesday, when they received information about illegal firearms and drugs in Site B, Khayelitsha.
The source said: “Operatives followed up on the information and on their arrival at Y Section, Site B, Khayelitsha they searched a house as per information received and found an illegal firearm colour with serial number filed off.
A 42-year-old male was arrested and detained at Khayelitsha SAPS.
“The operatives followed up on further information at U Section, Site B, Khayelitsha. On their arrival at the address they searched the house and found a firearm with eight 9mm rounds. A 57-year-old man was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm. The suspect is detained at Khayelitsha SAPS.”
Information has it that all the suspects will appear in court once charged.
