A 46-year-old man has been was arrested for the alleged murder of his 39 year old girlfriend in Motherwell, South African community.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, in a statement claimed that on February 8, Nomfuneko Mdwayi dropped off her 5-year-old child at family in Kwazakele and went back to her house in Hlobo Street NU 5 in Motherwell.
It was further alleged that she was meeting her boyfriend. Since then, her family was unable to contact her as her mobile phone was has been switched off.
At about 14:00 on Tuesday, her brother reportedly went to her house and saw that it was locked and her vehicle missing from the garage.
The curious brother also reportedly entered the house using a spare key and breaking open the burglar guard gate.
It was reported that Ms Mdwayi was found dead in the bath tub. Four television sets, a microwave and a blender were missing from the house. However, there were no signs of forced entry into the house.
Police suspected that she might have been strangled, but a post mortem would be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
It was further gathered that at about midnight that fateful day, her white Ford Ecosport was found abandoned in Jack Street, in Missionvale. The motive for murder is unclear at this stage.
Her boyfriend was detained for further questioning.
