Students in Nelson Mandela Bay Metro has benefitted from the Back-to-School Roadshow, as critical stakeholders, who are committed to ensure positive upbringing and development of every child, as well as positively shape society engaged students in discussions.
The team of organisers, visited Fumisukoma Primary and Mfesane Senior Secondary Schools in Motherwell, Gqeberha with the aim to sensitizing students about different issues relating to criminality.
It was gathered that theft, bullies, substance abuse and gender based violence formed part of agenda of discussions.
Mr Brian Davids, who represented Department of Correctional Services, sensitised students about the tough life in Correctional Centres, as his presentation illustrated the actual living of inmates.
Local Community Policing Forum were pleased to be part of the initiative, and further pledged to sustain the programme and relations between different role-players in ensuring safety and well-being of children in and out of schools.
Speaking for the South African Police Service, Office of the Provincial Commissioner Eastern Cape, Colonel Michelle Matroo, said educators and parents play critical role in social crime prevention, as fighting crime is everyone’s responsibility.
He advised them to change society’s attitude and behaviour through children’s development.
Security Watch Africa reports that respective school management appreciated the effort, and characterized the initiative as an educational programme that has a potential of changing children’s attitude and behaviour.
The roadshow team is expected to visit more schools around Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
