The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga, has expressed appreciation and gratitude to the Eastern Cape Premier, Mr Oscar Mabuyane, for recognising the work of the South African Police Service (SAPS), in the enforcement of the Disaster Management Regulations during the COVID-19 National Lockdown.
Security Watch Africa reports that the Batho Pele Public Service Excellence Awards Ceremony took place on Tuesday night, March 30, at the East London’s International Convention Centre.
Marking the fifth anniversary of the Batho Pele (People First) Public Service and Excellence Awards, the Eastern Cape Provincial Government (ECPG) was acknowledged for outstanding service delivery by government departments and individuals in the Provincial Public Service.
The Premier awarded the SAPS in the Eastern Cape with a Certificate and Trophy as a gesture of appreciation for partnering in an attempt to Combat, Prevent and Contain Covid-19.
According to General Ntshinga, SAPS was among the frontline service delivery departments and public entities that have collaborated with Provincial Government through Public Private Partnerships.
He said the recognition was in honour of those who died during the Covid-19 period, adding that the awards prioritize sacrifices and improvements made during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“ The Award received by the SAPS, belongs to Men and Women in blue who have made outstanding sacrifices during the devastating first year of 2020 and beyond. It is no rhetoric to suggest that our organisation suffered an irreparable paint and paid a heavy cost in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“ This must definitely serve as a morale booster and comforting to those adversely affected by the Coronavirus including the bereaved families of our fallen heroes and heroines in the organisation, ” he concluded.
SAPS Management has vowed to continue the fight against criminality and non-compliance until the invisible enemy, COVID-19, is defeated.
