Five suspects, who had snatched a vehicle in Goodwood, Cape Town, South Africa, and engaged Police operatives in a gun battle, have been arrested.
It was gathered that the suspects, were arrested based on information, and two firearms and ammunitions were recovered from them.
According to Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, who issued a statement for the South African Police Service (SAPS), Office of the Provincial Commissioner, Western Cape, members, attached to the Western Cape Flying Squad followed up on information of a stolen white Chevrolet that was driving in Goodwood and after searching the area they spotted the vehicle with five occupants.
“ The driver of the vehicle sped-off in an attempt to evade their arrest when a high speed chase ensued. The suspects shot at the Police who retaliated. Four suspects were shot and wounded, and were transported to hospital under Police guard for treatment. Police confiscated two prohibited firearms, ammunition and the vehicle that was reported stolen in Muizenberg.
“ Once they have been charged, the suspects are expected to appear in the Goodwood magistrate’s court, ” Rwexana said.
In another development, operatives have arrested a 39-year-old man, for selling prohibited drugs in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein.
It was learnt that 184 Mandrax tablets, crystal methamphetamine and ammunition were found with the suspect who will appear in court.
Rwexana said: “ Kraaifontein community participating in partnership policing and ensuring that unlicensed ammunition and drugs are removed from the community, had on Tuesday, March 30, informed the Police about a man who was selling drugs in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein.
“ Police proceeded to the address where they conducted a search and found 184 Mandrax tablets, crystal methamphetamine and ammunition. A 39-year-old man was arrested and he will appear in court soon.”
