Operatives of the South African Police Service (SAPS), have arrested and arraigned two men for defiling their own daughters in Mpumalanga Province.
Security Watch Africa reports that the first suspect, a 48-year-old man is expected to appear before the Kabokweni Magistrate’s court on May 6.
According to the acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Major General Thulani Phahla, the suspect was arrested at Masoyi for allegedly raping his 12 year old daughter.
Phahla said the second suspect, aged 36, is also due to appear before the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court after being arrested at Vosman for raping and impregnating his daughter, aged 14.
“In the Masoyi incident, a 12-year-old girl, accompanied by her peers bravely approached Police and reported that her biological father has been raping her for some time. She further stated that on April 13, her father started assaulting her for no apparent reason, he then tied her up with a rope and repeatedly raped her until Tuesday May 4.
“The ordeal ended when her friend came looking for her. It is reported that her father initially refused to let the friend enter the house. However she ignored him, forcefully pushed the door and eventually found the victim tied up. It is further said that her friend encouraged her to report the matter to Police hence his appearance.
“Meanwhile in Vosman, the suspect turned against his two daughters aged 14 and 16. Details revealed that he had been allegedly raping the youngest daughter since May 2020. The matter was however reported to Police on March 25, by their mother who became a complainant as the girls are still minors.
“The ordeal was uncovered after the youngest daughter started bleeding for months and her mother grew concerned then took her to the doctor for medical examination. During the consultation, the doctor informed the mother that her daughter was infact pregnant. That is when she revealed that her father had been repeatedly raping her since last year.
“A rape case was opened as such and the suspect arrested. Whilst Police were investigating the matter, they also discovered that he had reportedly also taken advantage of his 16 year old daughter who resides in Phola near Ogies. The suspect is facing charges of sexual grooming, sexual assault and rape. The suspect is appearing for a bail verdict,” the Police Chief said.
He further raised concerns on how children are sexually and emotionally abused by their own parents who are supposed to protect them.
“There is a real need for moral regeneration in our society, unless there is a change taking place then the future of our children is doomed as such incidents have a long term effect on the victims,” lamented General Phahla.
