To rid South Africa of crimes, Police officials in Gauteng Province have arrested 910 suspects for various crimes during Operation O Kae Molao.
The operation was conducted from the early hours of Thursday, 14 October, 2021 up till in the afternoon.
According to a statement by Colonel Dimakatso Sello of the South African Police Service, Office of the Provincial Commissioner, Gauteng, and made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA) on Friday, “The multidisciplinary operation is aimed at restoring law and order in the Province and ensuring that there is no space for criminals’ activities.
“Throughout the Province, Districts conducted roadblocks and stop and searches with focus on transportation of illegal goods, illegal firearms and drugs among other things.
“Tracing of wanted suspects and absconded parolees was also done by SAPS detectives and Department of Correctional Service. In conjunction to Operation O Kae Molao, social crime campaigns were also conducted at different places to address issues of Gender Based Violence and Femicide as it is one of the SAPS’s priority key areas.
“During the operation, illegal shebeens were closed with 4 568, 17 litres of liquor confiscated. Different drugs such as cocaine, heroin, crystal meth and khat were also seized. A minibus taxi with a tempered engine was impounded,” it stated.
The Provincial Commissioner for Gauteng Province, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, according to the statement, has assured the public while conducting a walkabout in one of Diepsloot’s informal settlements that the Police “will continue with this integrated multidisciplinary operation to ensure that they are safe and secured.”
He further appreciated external stakeholders who are available at all times to assist in the fight against crime.
