A 30-year-old suspect has been arrested for unlawful possession of a firearms, ammunitions and suspected stolen property in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain in Western Cape Province, South Africa.
It was learnt that the Mitchells Plain Proactive team members who were performing crime prevention duties had received information about a person in possession of illegal firearms at a premises in Nursery Street, Tafelsig.
Acting on the information, operatives reportedly embarked on a search of the premises, and a firearm, with three rounds of ammunition were recovered.
According to a Police source, a further search also led to the discovery of South African Police Service (SAPS), uniform items comprising of three shirts, two pairs of trousers and a bullet proof bag.
“ The suspect is expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court once charged, ” the source said.
In another development, operatives of Ravensmead Crime Prevention Unit has during patrols around Uitsig area, arrreated a 19-year-old young man for being in possession of unlicenced firearm.
Police operatives had reportedly stopped to search the suspect, but he started running. A chase ensued, and he was arrested.
“ He was found to be in possession of a firearm. The 19-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm. He is due to appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court once charged.
“ Both the firearms, confiscated in these incidents, will be subjected to ballistic testing in order to determine if they were used during previous reported firearms related offences, ” police source said.
In Harare, Police have intercepted 333 packets of dagga from an address known for selling dagga, with two suspects aged 21 ans 41 arrested.
A source privy to the operation said: “ On arrival at the Endlovini Informal Settlement, Khayelitsha, members found 43 packets of dagga and arrested the owner of the house. Further information led them to a stand that was supposed to be selling traditional herbs and they discovered another 290 packets of dagga and one suspect was arrested.
“ In a separate incident Police searched another shack also in Endlovini and discovered a packet of tik that weighed 30 grams. As they were on route to the Police station to process the suspects, they searched an unknown male in the street and found a packet of tik in his possession.
“ All four suspects aged between 21 and 41 were charged for dealing in drugs and possession of drugs. They are expected to appear in Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court soon.”
SAPS also called on members of the community to keep sharing information with the police about any illegal activities that they witness in their communities.
