Three suspects have been disarmed during separate interventions by operatives of the South Africa Police Service (SAPS), Western Cape.
Security Watch Africa reports that the operations were focused on reducing the number of firearms in the wrong hands in the Province.
Speaking on the incidents, the Office of the Provincial Commissioner of Western Cape, said the operations held in Gugulethu, Khayelitsha and Bonteheuwel.
Speaking for the Police, Colonel Andrè Traut said: “ During the early hours of this morning, Gugulethu Police arrested a 26-year-old suspect who was caught in possession with an unlicensed 9mm pistol. It is suspected that the suspect was about to rob a bread delivery truck before he was apprehended, as he was approaching the vehicle under suspicious circumstances when he was spotted.
“ Last night members of the Provincial Integrated Team pursued information of an armed suspect in an Audi and apprehend him in Khayelitsha following a brief high speed pursuit. The 36-year-old man was found in possession of a prohibited 9mm pistol and ammunitions.
“ In Bonteheuwel, members of the Bishop Lavis Crime Prevention Unit reacted to the sound of gunshots last night. Their investigation in the area resulted in the arrest of a 41-year-old male who had a 9mm pistol in his possession.
All the suspects are scheduled to make their respective court appearances in Athlone, Khayelitsha and Bishop Lavis once they have been charged.”
