For the sporadic shooting by some gunmen at the weekend that killed three women in Inanda township in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Province, the Police Minister, General Bheki Cele, is scheduled to receive full briefing on the incident on Tuesday 14 September, 2021.
The shooting aimed at a group of people waiting outside a Local Primary School in the area also injured five other persons.
A statement by Lirandzu Themba of the Office of the Minister of Police, and made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA) on Tuesday, also disclosed that the Minister will visit the families of the deceased after receiving the briefing.
The statement said “The news of a drive by shooting that has led to the killing of three women in Inanda township in Durban, has been received with shock by the Police Ministry.
“On Saturday 11 September, 2021, a black Opel Corsa bakkie with five occupants, opened fire at a group of people waiting outside a local primary school.
“The cowardly act claimed the lives of 34-year-old Ncami Shange, 60-year-old Beatrice Nzama and Philisiwe Jili who was 37 years of age. Five more people were injured and taken to hospital.
“The Police Minister, General Bheki Cele will on Tuesday 14 September 2021, receive a full briefing on the incident by the South African Police Service (SAPS) management team before making his way to the family homes of the deceased and the crime scene,” it stated.
