The Western Cape Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Tembekile Phathekile with other Senior Officers of South African Police Service (SAPS), has paid their last respect to Sergeant Mnakwazo Mdoko, who was laid to rest at his home at Ngqolowa Location, Middledrift outside King William’s Town.
Security Watch Africa reports that Mnakwazo died in the line of duty, after he was attacked by unknown gunmen.
A family member, Mr. Mdoko, who was speaking on behalf of the family described Sergeant Mdoko as a soldier who died while serving the community of South Africa.
“ He was born by a single mother whom he was attached to. He was also a breadwinner who left behind his wife, two children (daughters) and his siblings. Let not his death be in vain, we urge police not to mess with the investigation and ensure that the suspects rot in jail in paying for their wrongdoings, ” he pleaded.
The Kraaifontein South African Police Service (SAPS), Station Commander, Colonel Mnonopheli Magobiyane, also described the Sergeant as a team player, who was so humble and used to be a relief commander in the absence of his Commander.
Colonel Mogabiyane further explained that Mnakwazo’s team was so good in Police generated crimes and in ensuring that no crime is committed.
“ He was always gathering information that led to perpetrators being arrested. He was a dedicated member who had passion for his job and he died during his tour of duty, ” he said.
On his part, Major General Tembekile Phathekile thanked the family for allowing such a soldier be a part of SAPS.
“ He didn’t embarrass his family as he took the oath as a Police Officer and he died serving the South African citizens. SAPS is so heartbroken about the loss of such a dedicated, loyal and loving member, ” he added.
Gen. Phathekile told the family nine suspects had been arrested and five firearms recovered including the two service firearms that were robbed from operatives.
“ Within three days the suspects were arrested and we will ensure that bail is denied and our hope is for them to get life imprisonment. I encouraged the community to continue to assist the police in the fight against crime.
“ We also promise and commit that SAPS will continue to ensure that the South African citizens are safe and secure,” he added.
The Chaplain W/O (Rev) Mzileni comforted the family and colleagues, urging them to trust in God who knows all things.
