Three Police Stations in South Africa have been shut following infections of COVID-19 amongst operatives.
The affected Police stations, Kabega Park Police station in Eastern Cape Province, Selosesha Police station in Free State Province and Potchefstroom Police station in North West Province are temporarily closed for decontamination.
Security Watch Africa (SWA) reports that while Kabega Park Police station will be operating from the Satellite station at Seaview, Selosesha Police station will be operating from the Mess Hall in the station premises, and Potchefstroom Police station will also operate from nearby officers club.
Speaking on Kabega Police situation, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the contact number for the Police station is 082 442 1282, this is as some services will also be operating from the South African Police Service (SAPS) Information Desk at the Baywest Shopping Centre between 6am and 6pm, until the re-opening.
“The Station Commander, Colonel Tony Nomdoe may be contacted on 082 303 0504. The station will be decontaminated and the station members will be subjected to all health safety protocols.
“The community will be informed once the station is operational. SAPS management apologises for any inconvenience that may arise from this temporary closure,” she said.
Similarly, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, who spoke on the Selosesha Police station said: “Community serviced by the police station is advised that the station has been temporarily closed for decontamination after a positive case of COVID-19 was confirmed.
“The Community Service Centre will temporarily operate from the Mess Hall in the station premises. For any emergency or urgent assistance the following numbers can be used: Community Service Centre: 079 886 5569
and Station Commander: 071 632 0364.
“The community will be informed when the Police station is fully operational. The SAPS Management apologizes for any inconvenience that may arise due to this temporary closure.”
Also communities being serviced by the Potchefstroom Police station are advised to contact the Control Room on Tel: 018 299 7477/6.
Colonel Adele Myburgh said: “This Police station’s Community Service Centre (CSC) and admin offices are currently closed due to one of its members having tested positive for COVID-19.
The CSC will temporarily operate from the nearby Officers Club, adjacent to the current CSC premises, as a contingency.
“The old Police station contact details remains unchanged. The Community Service Centre (CSC) was decontaminated, while members that have come in contact with the infected member are undergoing screening and testing.
The CSC will be operational again on Friday, May 14.”
